Cosa Nosferatu Capone Ness The Undead EJ Priz Books Reviews

  • A very clever crossover between Eliot Ness, Al Capone, and the world of H.P. Lovercraft. I didn't know what to expect, but the author pulled it off rather well. I grew up watching Robert Stack as Eliot Ness on The Untouchables and later discovered H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulu mythos, and it frankly never would have occurred to me that there was any way to combine the two. I was wrong. True, perhaps the book could have been a trifle shorter, but you also have to factor in the appearance of pulp writer Lester Dent who, as you may know, was the creator of Doc Savage. Plus, a character who might well have served as the inspiration for Walter Gibson's The Shadow. All in all, a lot of fun and well worth the read. Highly recommended for the cognoscenti as well as the casual reader who may have an interest in any of these characters, real and imagined. I don't know if E. Priz has written any other books but, if he has, I'd be very inclined to check them out as well.

  • I'm not a big fan of horror, but this is actually mesmerizing and I didn't want to stop reading this book. The author knows a great deal of Chicago history and manages to combine actual historical events and people with some good spooky fun! This is an easy read, the characters leap out of the pages and leave you wanting more. I'm a big fan of this era and Eliot Ness and this is one author who manages to bring him back to life in a very creative fashion. A fun read that has it all - an element of fright, Chicago in the 1930s, Al Capone and even a little romance. Lots of fun!
  • This is a revised edition, incorporating an updated version of the novel originally published in 2010. The stars given are based on reader reviews of that 2010 edition.
